On the shores of the García de Sola Reservoir, in the municipality of Talarrubias (Badajoz), you will find Puerto Peña Restaurant, an establishment that has been offering traditional cuisine for around nine years in a privileged setting, with direct access to the reservoir beach.

The restaurant has a large terrace overlooking the water and a fully glazed dining room, designed to enjoy the landscape throughout the year. As a welcome detail, they serve a small appetizer consisting of pâté accompanied by mini toasts.

Its menu is extensive and combines meats, fish, portions and salads. During the summer months, it also includes classics such as gazpacho, salmorejo and ajoblanco.

One of its specialties is made-to-order paellas and rice dishes, including lobster rice, Iberian paella, mixed paella and seafood paella, which must be booked in advance. (This is important: when making your reservation, you must choose and request the paella in advance if you want to order one) They also prepare made-to-order roasts, such as suckling pig, pork knuckle or suckling lamb shoulder.

During our visit, we started with a smoked fish salad. As main courses, we chose sea bass and sea bream, both served with salad. To finish, we tried the cheesecake, and the meal ended with a complimentary shot.

The dessert selection includes different cakes —such as lemon cake, grandmother’s cake, Kinder cake and chocolate cake— as well as ice creams.

During the summer they are open every day of the week, while from October onwards their opening hours are usually limited to Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Beyond the cuisine, Puerto Peña also stands out for its location. The terrace, with views of the García de Sola Reservoir, is an excellent place to enjoy the surroundings peacefully. If you can choose the time of your visit, it is worth arriving at sunset, when the sun goes down over the reservoir and provides one of the best views in the area.

If you come from Andalusia - Córdoba / Málaga, you will find a scenic route with incredible landscapes. One of the highlights is Cerro Masatrigo, which, like an island, makes the route split into two sections, creating continuous landscapes perfect for photography.

The harbor has space for small boats, as well as a rental area for boats (for 4 people) and kayaks, with a cost of 15 to 20 euros per hour. There are permanent lifeguards until 9:00 PM (until the end of August), and tables with generous shade areas for picnics (camping is not allowed). There is ample parking both inside and outside the restaurant area.
