Caviahue - Copahue: Extreme Patagonia.

We visited Caviahue and Copahue in winter. It was a truly incredible experience, with the snow taking center stage...
A+ A-
Imagine being in a place where, to leave your house, you have to dig through the snow for an hour. Where the cars in your neighborhood are buried, and your neighbors dig for days to unearth them. Where pickup trucks drive on caterpillar tracks and you walk through the neighborhood at rooftop level. This is Caviahue after a snowstorm. 3 meters of snow on the streets, a white chaos that makes its inhabitants strong and united.
In any case, it's nothing like the Copahue Thermal Center, which accumulates up to 9 meters of snow in winter! It can only be reached by tracked vehicles and snowmobiles. This landscape is so extreme that it's used as a pre-Antarctic training site for the military. In the winter, only one resident lives in the town of Copahue, and it's so extreme that all the hot springs and hotel staff close and move to Caviahue to spend the winter.
In summer, the Copahue hot springs are accessible by car, and their thermal waters have properties unique in the world.
A snowmobile excursion to the border between Argentina and Chile is one of the most extreme experiences you can have, always accompanied by expert guides. Reach the foot of the Copahue Volcano and admire an incredible snowy plain in a pristine location in the Andes.
